Expertise
As a Senior Consultant with over 20 years of industry experience,
Bock consults with numerous software companies, end-user organizations, universities,
and government agencies in the area of business strategy, technology innovation
and workgroup computing. Bock helps software firms with their strategic market
analysis and competitive positioning by clearly articulating the business benefits
of innovative product concepts. Bock works with end-user companies to develop
customer-centric systems requirements and technology assessments.
As a Senior Analyst in the group’s research and advisory services,
his recent research focuses on content and knowledge management, business
process integration, XML taxonomies, search and discovery environments, RosettaNet,
privacy requirements within communities of interest, and the distribution of
digital goods and services over the Internet. His analysis in content management
ranges from an overview framework and a product landscape, to detailed reviews
of individual companies’ products. He has authored numerous white papers
on collaborative commerce and content management products and technologies.
Bock is often called upon to be a keynote speaker and panel moderator at industry
conferences. Bock is frequently quoted in the technical press.
Bock is the co-author of Designing Groupware: A Guidebook
for Implementors, Designers and Users (McGraw Hill, 1995) and of a number
of technology notes on the business uses of distributed computing (Harvard Business
School Press, 1995). Bock is co-editor of Groupware: Software for Computer
Supported Cooperative Work (Computer Society Press, 1992).
Prior to joining the Patricia Seybold Group, Bock served as
Project Manager and Strategic Analyst at Digital Equipment Corporation where
he coordinated advanced development projects that focused on information sharing,
collaborative computing and intelligent agents. Bock designed numerous office
applications such as e-mail systems, word processing systems and integrated
office applications. As a Research Scientist at MIT, he worked on developing
collaborative computing solutions and technologies.
